Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel meeting in New York with Cardinal Augustine Bea, who shepherded the process of Catholic introspection that led to Nostra Aetate, March 31, 1963.

60 years ago, in the landmark declaration, Nostra Aetete, the Catholic church finally removed the accusation that the Jewish people were collectively and forever responsible for the death of Jesus. It also affirmed the special spiritual bond that ties the people of the New Testament with the children of Abraham, and stated that ‘the Catholic Church does not reject anything that is true and holy’.

It is also the 25th anniversary of the first major Jewish response, primarily from Progressive Rabbis in North America and the 10th anniversary of the response from Orthodox Rabbis in Israel.

A Service of celebration to mark this important change in our relationship will be held in St Edmunds Church, The Avenue, Southampton SO17 1XJ at 6.00pm on Thursday 13th November, led by Canon Michael Dennehy and Rabbi Maurice Michaels.

All welcome.

"These are the things you are to do:

Speak the truth to one another, render true and perfect justice in your gates" (Zechariah 8:16).

Our Lady of the Rosary of La Navál de Manila- During the Month of the Holy Rosary (October), a special devotional initiative is taking place at the side altar of Our Lady in St. Edmund’s Church. A petition book is now available for parishioners to write their personal intentions to Our Lady of the Rosary of La Navál de Manila, a Marian title especially venerated in the Philippines and among seafarers. Given Southampton’s own deep maritime heritage, this devotion holds particular meaning. Once the book has been prayerfully filled with intentions, it will be sent to the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Navál in Quezon City, where Dominican brothers and religious will offer prayers for all the intentions submitted. A framed picture of the miraculous image of Our Lady of La Navál is now placed at the side altar for the duration of the month, along with prayer cards and booklets to aid in personal devotion. These include prayers for the sick, for expectant mothers, and for those at sea—reflecting miracles historically attributed to Our Lady under this title. All are warmly invited to take part in this beautiful opportunity to grow in Marian devotion and entrust their intentions to Our Blessed Mother.
